A Comparison Between My First and Last Speeches

There were many similarities between my first and last speech. My enthusiasm stayed about the same while giving my speeches. I didn't improve on that part of public speaking. I also didn't improve on my vocal volume.

There are many differences between my first and last speeches. My first speech was shorter than my last speech. I didn't speak as clearly in my first speech and I didn't make as much eye contact compared to my last speech. I also used more hand gestures in my last speech. I have improved in many areas but there is still more that can be done to take my speech giving ability to the next level.

Informative Speech

I think I did well on my informative speech. I spoke clearly and made eye contact with the audience. My hand gestures could have been larger and I could have looked up at my powerpoint less. Overall, I gave a great speech but I have some room to improve.

Speech Evaluation

I think that I did fairly well on my first speech in Mr. Lunn's Humor and Satire class. I spoke clearly and I wasn't very nervous. I was very confident that I would do well. I maintained eye contact with one major exception wher I forgot what I was going to say and I looked up while I was trying to remember what I was going to talk about. Overall I believe that I did well on my speech. There is room to improve but by the end of the year my speeches should be near perfect.

Cast

The following cast has been arranged to fit the personalities, characteristics, and attributes of the eight main characters in Taming of the Shrew.

Katherine : America Ferrera

Katherine is the shrew of the story. She is short tempered and not very attractive in most people's perspectives. America Ferrara would be the perfect person to fill this role.
Petruchio : Pierce Brosnan

Petruchio is the "tamer of the shrew". Brosnan would fill the role of Petruchio very well.

Bianca : Jessica Alba
Bianca is Katherine's younger and more beautiful sister. Jessica Alba being a beautiful actress would be considered a good fit for the role of Bianca.
Baptista : Hulk Hogan

Baptista is Katherine and Bianca's father. The role of baptista would be played by Hulk Hogan.
Lucentio, Gremio, and Hortensio : David Beckham, Orlando Bloom, and Tom Cruise

Lucentio, Gremio, and Hortensio are all suitors of Bianca. Their roles would be played by David Beckham, Orlando Bloom, and Tom Cruise.

Tranio : Elijah Wood

Tranio is the servant of Lucentio. This role would be filled by Elijah Wood.

Vocabulary Extravaganza

Black Humor - Comedy whose material is taboo.

This image is a great example of black humor. This type of humorous material is not socially acceptable today. In other words, would you show this picture to your grandmother?

Hyperbole - Extreme Exaggeration
This shirt is exaggerating how wonderful hyperboles are. This is obviously an exaggeration because hyperboles cannot be the "greatest thing in the history of the universe".

Play on words - Where words become the subject; similar to a pun

In the image to the left there is an artists depiction of a play on words using the word "springs." It is shown that springs can refer to water that erupts from the ground or to large metallic coils.

Situational Humor - Contins a storyline and ongoing characters

Everybody Loves Raymond is an excellent example of situational humor. The television series has a different plot each episode and has several ongoing characters. The characters' struggle to put up with one another is what makes this show humorous.
